First off, we at the Society would like to say a huge huge thank you to the real stars of today; Neil Clark and his amazing Falkirk Pipes and friends, who all gathered with 1 days notice, some hadn’t played together before. No practice, no preparation - simply met together today and pulled a rabbit out of the hat before our very eyes! Well done to every one of you and we cannot thank you enough - we hope to have you back!
Another good Battle of Falkirk day, despite the above last minute setbacks. Glad town crier Phyl is okay after collapsing. Police were on the spot and dealt with it brilliantly. We knew Phyl was recovering when he said "This is the first time a Scouser has been surrounded by police in Scotland without cuffs on". Great entertainment at the Old Parish kirkyard with Clann an Drumma and Treub Dansa, stalls, knights, volunteers and Falkirk Delivers. We also would thank Police Scotland Forth Valley and the Scottish Ambulance Service. Falkirk Delivers has been a key and essential partner of the event with us for a good number of years and the event simply wouldn't be without all of their hard work. Elaine, Stef and Jill along with local Councillors Robert Spears and Keir Stevenson went all out on this year's event to make it as great as it could be and deserve huge respect and congratulations for this.
As well as the cairn commemoration and march to the Kirk, the town centre and Kirk environs hosted Historical Re-enactments, Living History displays, Medieval Arts and Crafts, live music & dancing displays, face painting, and acrobatic & fire fun. We're looking forward to next year already, hope to see you all there.
