HUNTERSTON CASTLE CLAN GATHERING - 24-26th JULY 2026
Clan Gathering, Hunterston Castle 24-26th July 2026
Members of the Society were again invited to attend the bi-annual Clan Hunter Gathering held over the weekend, where members of the Clan from as far afield as Australia, Canada and the United States of America get together to remember their Scottish association. Gordon represented the Society on Friday 24th, and David, Neil and Nick were there on the Saturday to talk to guests, present the Wallace Oak display, and demonstrate early medieval weaponry and history. The weather stayed fine, and the ensemble were treated to a display from the Kilwinning archers, guided tours of the castle, along with a substantial buffet. Lectures included heraldry, and the Largs Vikings had their longship on the field and talked about their society. We were all treated to a very involved and amusing journey through the Clan Hunter's history, from the 1100's to the present day. Many of us enjoyed Martin's haggis hurling lessons, (despite our Society's ignominious loss to the Kilwinning Archers), and everyone seemed to have an enjoyable day out. Thanks are due to Clan Hunter for inviting us to share in their celebrations.
