Battle of Stirling Bridge Commemoration - 11th September 2022
This year's Battle of Stirling Brig Commemoration took place on Sunday 11th September, and was once again organised by Ted Christopher.
The weather kept well for us and also a great turnout, Ted started us off and then Gordon Aitken from the society spoke about the Battle and what Wallace meant to the people of Scotland.
After Gordon had spoken Gary Stewart from the Society was invited up to present Gordon Aitken with the David R Ross award for services to the Society, An honour which was well deserved for his tireless work not just for the Society but other organisations that he is a member of.
Next up we had a song From Alan Smart and then John Stewart from the guardians of Scotland trust who made a great speech about the battle.
Ken Sheerin of the Knights Templar made a short speech and led us in prayer. Wreaths were laid, then Ted came on last, we held a minutes silence and the new Saltire was raised again at Stirling Bridge. He then finished off proceedings with the plans that are in progress from the Guardian Trust and especially the new lights to floodlight onto the bridge that hopefully will be unveiled on the 30th November.
Ted then sang 'I'm Coming Home', the song he wrote for David R Ross’s epic Walk for Wallace in 2005 and we finished of with 'Scots Wha Hae'.
Overall a great day out and wonderful commemoration, Wallace and De Moray would hopefully have been looking down and liked what they had seen.
