TARTAN PARADE, EDINBURGH, 9th MAY 2026
The second Tartan Parade in Edinburgh was held on Saturday 9th May, 2026. The Society were invited to participate again, and in total there were some 2500 people involved. An overcast Spring day, but dry and not too windy, and thousands lined the streets along the route. Pipe bands, historical associations, Scottish commercial and cultural interests, and traditional dance troupes from around Scotland took part, alongside participants from Australia, America, France and Ukraine from around the world. The parade started on the Royal Mile, headed down Cockburn Street, continued across Waverley Bridge, through Princes Street Gardens and ended alongside the National Galleries of Scotland. This was then followed by a ceilidh for the participants at the Princes Street Gardens outdoor bandstand. A truly wonderful event, surely successful enough for Edinburgh Council to ensure it remains an annual affair. Below are a few photos of the Society's participation, innumerable Pipe Bands, Chinese dragons, many dance schools and various societies and clan organisations. An entertaining day out, and the onlookers seemed to enjoy themselves as much as we all did.
