Wallace Day, Saturday 23/8/25
The weather was fine, and a decent number of people had attended when the proceedings started at 2pm with a welcome and introductory remarks fron Neil Lochiel, (including that the committee are all volunteers and we'd love others to help out). Gordon Aitken then spoke about Wallace, and the importance of this annual commemoration, largely ignored by the government and local authorities. Wreaths were then laid, and the lament played by piper Alex Scullion.
Gordon then announced the annual David R. Ross Award - to a rather surprised David Reid, Convenor, for his sterling efforts in aid of the Society since his appointment. This was a unanimous decision by the Committee, and he seemed a little taken aback, as he wasn't expecting to have to make a speech! This was followed by both Garaidh Stewart and Nick Brand reminiscing about the events 20 years ago leading up to the Walk for Wallace, and some of the more humorous
events during the walk and the day itself. Nick presented Garaidh with a sketch of the Wallace Yew in token of his efforts for the Society both as Vice-Convenor and also Convenor for 10 years.
We were then treated to a couple of songs from our old friend Alastair Macdonald, prior to closing remarks from Neil, and finished up with the traditional song "Scots Wha Hae" led by Alastair Macdonald.
