This year's dinner was held at the Wallace Tavern, Main St, Elderslie. A fantastic three course dinner, well mine's was actually a four course as I helped some people clear their plates. I went for the steak and ale pie and it was easily one of the best I've tasted. You pass the place when you walk back to Elderslie village hall from the monument after the speeches on Wallace Day in case you ever want to sample their hospitality, tell them we sent you and you might get some extra chips.
We then had an intimate evening with Ted (better than Elvis) Christopher. I'm sure many people that were there on the night will have seen Ted play many times but this was special. Sometimes when you're at a function you tend not to listen to Ted whereas tonight we were all focused on the music and Ted played an absolute blinder.
The Wallace Tavern has a new, and very sympathetic owner. He has applied for planning permission to erect flagpoles to fly Saltires, and has plans underway to have a huge mural of Wallace painted on the gable end of the building. His menus etc., all feature Wallace artwork, and he is working his way forward with this stuff. So we were made to feel very much at home and the staff were wonderful. 31 souls turned up for dinner and considering it was a Wednesday night that was a very good turn out, all things considered. We seem to have found a great wee place just yards from where William Wallace first saw the light of day and the bonus is Scottish Patriots are made to feel right at home in this smashing wee pub.
