Our friend and fellow patriot Lachlan McCann sadly passed away on the 19th of June after being diagnosed with cancer. Anyone who knew Lachlan knows not only what we as a Society have lost, but also what Scotland has lost. Anyone who met Lachlan could not fail to have been inspired by his infectious good humour and welcoming nature, you always found him the one way, friendly, patriotic and needing a push! A lovelier man you could not hope to meet and that is why we all find it hard to come to terms with such a loss of not only a wonderful man, but a Father of two wonderful young girls and husband of the lovely Amber.
The one thing that no one ever doubted about Lachlan was his patriotism and had he been given the opportunity to fight alongside Wallace there's little doubt Lachlan would have been there, and then some. But the courage Lachlan showed in fighting this terrible disease was more than equal to any warrior on the field of battle. One of Lachlan's dearest wishes was to recreate his first date with Amber at the Stirling Monument where he shared with Amber, "Clooty dumpling and fresh cream", he wanted to share this memory with his two lassies and his beloved Amber so the idea for "Wheels for Wallace II" was born, with the help of some wonderful friends we managed to recreate this event on Saturday the 15th of June, five days later Lachlan passed away.
There's not much anyone can say in a situation like this that can make it any better but Amber really appreciates all your kind words and and messages of support, she has more than matched Lachlan recently in showing tremendous courage and strength throughout this ordeal. But like everyone, even the bravest among us also need support, Amber hasn't asked for it but Lachlan called us his family up at the Wallace Monument and for anyone there, well it was rather special.
The Society will be having a fundraiser for Amber and the girls very soon, in fact we've already started, but we know some of our friends overseas have enquired as to how they can donate which is wonderfully kind. Details are below.
One hundred percent of all funds raised will all go to Lachlan's family, be it to help pay for funeral expenses or just to ease the financial burden that the loss of a father and husband can entail.
Lachlan was a special man, friend, husband and father, we shall miss him so much more than he could ever have imagined, such a loss brings us all closer together as we mourn our dear dear friend Lachlan.
